WOMEN’S SOCCER SCORELESS IN 5-0 LOSS TO COLORADO COLLEGE

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Sacramento State fell to Colorado College, 5-0, on Monday afternoon at Hornet Soccer Field.

The Tigers (8-5-1) were led by Amara Wilson, who scored two goals. Also finding the back of the net was Stephanie Kernan, Laura Wilcox and Christie Ginanni.

Wilson also had a match-high three shots on goal.

Colorado College scored early on, when Ashley Hooverson split the defense and sent off a pass for Kernan, who scored from eight-yards out.

Wilson then scored on a header in the 16th minute that went over the outstretched arms of freshman goalkeeper Brittany Auernig.

The Tigers then scored on a penalty kick from Laura Wilcox and two set pieces in the second half. Ginanni scored unassisted on a direct kick from 25-yards out. Wilson then knocked in a Ginanni free kick in the 70th minute past Hornet goalkeeper Michelle Balzouman at halftime.

Sacramento State placed seven shots on goal to the Tigers’ 11, but Colorado goalkeeper Megan Loseke had a game-high seven saves to score a shutout. Freshman Katie McCoy led the Hornets with two shots on goal. McCoy also was denied a goal in the first half after it was called back because of an offsides call.

Balzouman finished the match with five saves and Auernig had one.

Sacramento State is now 2-10-0 on the season and 0-1-0 in the Big Sky. They will travel to Northern Arizona for Big Sky match at 7 p.m. on Friday. The Hornets will return to Hornet Soccer Field on Sunday, Oct. 17 for a 3:30 p.m. match with UC Davis. The game will be part of a doubleheader. The men’s soccer team will play UNLV at 1 p.m.
