WOMEN'S SOCCER ADDS GWINN AND DeGUERRE TO SIGNEE LIST

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The Sacramento State women’s soccer team added JC All-American Amber Gwinn and Megan DeGuerre to its signing class by inking them to National Letters of Intent, it was announced today. She joins incoming freshmen Brittany Auernig, Amanda GrayKatie McCoyRebeccah Phillips and Katelyn Satkowski, who signed with the program in February. Each signee will enroll at Sacramento State in the fall of 2004.

Gwinn, a midfielder from Lassen Junior College in Susanville, Calif., led the Cougars to a pair of Golden Valley Conference Championships (2002, 2003), a Northern California Regional title (2003) and a second-place finish at the COA California Community College championships in (2003). A two-year starter and team captain, Gwinn led the Cougars to a combined record of 47-5-0 and a third-place ranking in the NSCAA/adidas Div. III National Poll in 2003.

Individually, Gwinn ranked eighth in the state with 18 goals and 22 assists while earning all-GVC accolades as a freshman. As a sophomore, she finished sixth in the state with 21 goals and 23 assists to go along with her second all-conference selection and COA All-America honors.

A 2002 graduate of Douglas High School in Douglas, Nev., Gwinn competed in four years of soccer and basketball for the Tigers. In soccer, she led the squad to a Northern Region title in 2000 and a second-place finish at the Northern Nevada Regional in 2002. Gwinn earned first team all-conference honors as sophomore and led the Tigers in scoring as a junior. She also earned team co-MVP and second team all-conference honors as a freshman. In basketball, Gwinn received first team all-conference and first team all-defensive accolades as a senior point guard.

Gwinn was also a four-year member of the Carson Valley Rebels in Minden, Nev. As a forward, she led the squad to a Nevada State Cup title in 1997.

DeGuerre, a central midfielder from Liberty High School in Brentwood, Calif., competed in four years of soccer and track for the Lions. In soccer, she was a first team all-Bay Valley Athletic League selection as a senior and also garnered second-team all-BVAL accolades as a junior. DeGuerre also earned all-BVAL honorable mention honors as a sophomore. Academically, DeGuerre was selected to the honor roll all four years and was also named Outstanding Student of the Year as a senior.

DeGuerre is a two-year member of the Elk Grove Pride club team in Elk Grove, Calif. As an outside midfielder/forward, she helped lead the squad to a Harvest Cup title in 2003 and a Nomads-Coaches’ Showcase crown in 2004.
