SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The Sacramento State women’s soccer team signed five student-athletes to National Letters of Intent, it was announced today. The group represents the second recruiting class for the Hornet program under head coach Karen Hanks. Each signee will enroll at Sacramento State in the fall of 2004.Brittany Auernig, Amanda Gray, Katie McCoy, Rebeccah Phillips and Kayelyn Satkowski make up the incoming freshman class who will be joining the squad.
Auernig, a goalkeeper from Bella Vista High School, in Fair Oaks Calif., played on the varsity squad as a freshman and was named team captain during her senior season. She also earned all-Capitol Athletic League honorable mention team as a senior. Auernig played for the San Juan Spirits of ‘86 club team during the 1994-99, 2001-04 seasons. She was also involved with the Olympic Development Program from 1998- 2001, playing with both regional (99) and state teams (1999-0)1.
Gray, a forward from Ayala High School in Chino, Calif., was a member of the varsity squad for three years. She helped the Bulldogs win two consecutive Sierra League championships 2002 and 2003. She was named to the first team all-Sierra League, as a junior.
McCoy, a midfielder/forward arrives from Grossmont High School in El Cajon, Calif., where she started for the varsity squad for four years. She was named all section first Team , first team all-Grossmont League, and second team all-San Diego County as a senior. Her club team the San Diego Spirits, was a Premier Cup Finalist, Surf Cup Champions and Mission Viejo Champions in 2003.
Phillips, is a midfielder from El Toro High School in El Toro, Calif., where she played on the varsity team for four years. During the 2003 she helped lead the squad to the CIF section semifinals. She is also a member of the San Diego Spirit club team 2001-04 which became Premiere Club finalists, Surf Cup champions and Mission Viejo champions in 2003. A versatile athlete, Phillips placed 14th in all of Orange County in the 100 meter high hurdles as a senior.
Satkowski is a four year varsity Forward from Casa Roble High School in Citrus Heights, Calif. Satkowski was a member of the San Juan Spirit ‘86 (2001-04) with Auernig. As part of the Olympic Development Program , she was a member of the District VI (2002) and also participated with the Nor Cal State team in 2000.
