Goalkeeper Stephanie Shaw made eight saves in 110 minutes of scoreless action as the women''s soccer team tied Big Sky Conference opponent Weber State, 0-0, Friday afternoon at Hornet Soccer Field. Weber State goalkeeper Melanie Stratford tallied six saves for the Wildcats.Sacramento State is now 5-6-3 overall and 0-1-2 in the Big Sky while the Wildcats sit at 5-8-3, 3-0-1.
The first two periods of play saw both teams put together several offensive opportunities. The Wildcats tallied nine shots while the Hornets took eleven. The defensive effort by Shaw and Stratford was too much for either team to overcome. The Hornets Linda Sanchez led all players with five shots, three of which were on goal.
Weber State nearly scored during the second overtime period, when Wildcat Krista Davis placed a hard ball to the top of the goal. Shaw leaped and knocked the ball to the ground, dove for the loose ball and made the save despite running into the goalpost.
This was the fourth double overtime contest of the season for the Hornets. Sacramento State remains unbeaten in overtime matches with a 1-0-3 record.
Sacramento State will continue Big Sky Conference play this weekend as the Hornets host Idaho State on Sunday, Oct. 26, at 1 p.m.
