WOMEN'S SOCCER DROPS BIG SKY CONFERENCE MATCH TO NORTHERN ARIZONA, 2-1

Northern Arizona forward Brandy Johnson scored a pair of goals, one in each half, to lead the Lumberjacks to a 2-1 Big Sky Conference victory over the Sacramento State women’s soccer team Friday afternoon at Hornet Soccer Field.

The Hornets’ record now stands at 5-6-2 (0-1-1 in the Big Sky Conference), while Northern Arizona improves to 4-6-3 (1-0 in the Big Sky).

Johnson put the Lumberjacks on the board first during- the 19th minute of the contest when she took a long cross into the middle from teammate Jesyca Rosholt. Johnson gathered the pass, and then kicked the ball into the back of the net.

Hornet senior Stacey Rowell and freshman Kelly Novak got together during the 23rd minute, to tie the contest at 1-1. Novak placed a long ball into the goal area that ricocheted off Lumberjack goalkeeper Andrea Berra. Rowell then punched the ball into the bottom right side of the net.

Northern Arizona took the lead for good during the 76th minute of the game as Johnson scored her second goal of the contest, with an assist from Sierra Cristiano.

With two conference games behind them, the Hornets will look to earn their first Big Sky victory over Weber State on Friday Oct. 24 (3 p.m.) at Hornet Soccer Field.
