WOMEN'S SOCCER TIES PORTLAND STATE, 0-0, IN BIG SKY OPENER

Freshman goalkeeper Stephanie Shaw and Portland State goalkeeper Joell Giger held their opponents scoreless for 110 minutes of play as the Sacramento Sate women''s soccer team tied Portland State, 0-0, Sunday afternoon at PGE Park. The match marked the first Big Sky Conference game for each school.

The Hornets'' are now 4-5-2 overall and 0-0-1 in the Big Sky while Portland State went to 5-7-1, 0-0-1.

Shaw tallied a game-high five saves and earned her second shut for the season. Her first coming in a 1-0 defeat of Idaho State on Oct 5.

The Hornets took 14 shots against the Vikings, after only managing three shots in a 2-0 loss to Saint Mary''s on Oct 10. Hornet freshman Kelly Novak led the Hornets with five shots.

Sacramento State returns home to Hornet Soccer Field for a non-conference game against San Jose State on Wednesday, Oct. 15, at 4 p.m.
