WOMEN'S SOCCER FALLS TO OREGON, 3-1

9/14/2003

Oregon scored late in the first half and twice more in the second as the Ducks defeated the Sacramento State womens soccer team, 3-1, Sunday afternoon at Hornet Soccer Field. The Hornets fell to 1-3 on the year while Oregon improved to 5-0.

The Ducks first goal came in the 44th minute of the contest as Nicole Garbin was awarded a penalty kick after being fouled in the box by freshmen goalkeeper Stephanie Shaw. The penalty shot went into the left corner of the goal.

Oregon added the deciding score early in the second period as Sabrina DeMonte lofted a corner kick into the front of the Hornet goal where the ball was tapped in by Garbin for her second goal of the game.

The Hornets battled back with a goal off the foot of freshman Kelly Novak during the 65th minute of the contest. Sophomore Marissa Condren floated a pass right to the feet of Novak as she was sprinting to the goal. With only the goalkeeper to beat, Novak connected on her second attempted after her first shot glanced off the goalkeeper.

The Ducks added their final goal during the 81st minute when Garbin crossed a pass from the right side to teammate Caitlin Gamble. Gamble took the pass and placed a shot into the bottom left corner for the score.

The Hornets will next host Princeton at Hornet Soccer Field on Friday, Sept. 19, at 5 p.m.
