WOMEN’S SOCCER BLANKS WEBER STATE, 2-0, IN HOME FINALE

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Senior forward Lisa Wrightsman recorded two goals to lead the Sacramento State women’s soccer team to a 2-0 Big Sky Conference win over Weber State, Sunday afternoon at Hornet Soccer Field. The win marked the first Big Sky victory for Hornet head coach Karen Hanks.

Sacramento State improved to 2-13-1 overall and 1-5 in the Big Sky while Weber State dropped to 5-10-1, 1-4.

Wrightsman recorded her first goal of the contest in the fourth minute to give Sacramento State an early lead. The Elk Grove, Calif., native received a cross from freshman Natalia Romo, then fired a shot past Wildcat goalkeeper Melanie Stratford for the score.

Wrightsman sealed the victory for Sacramento State in the 62nd minute when she beat Stratford on a one-on-one situation outside of the Wildcat goal for her second score of the contest.

Freshman Linda Sanchez controlled the midfield for the Hornets by tallying four shots. Junior defender Stacey Rowell and junior goalkeeper Amy Seely led the defense as Rowell allowed only five shots on goal and Seely finished with five saves on the afternoon. Sacramento State outshot Weber State 16-11.

The Hornets will compete in their final contest of the 2002 season when the squad faces San Jose State on Sunday, Nov. 3, at 2:30 p.m. in Spartan Stadium.
