POCATELLO, Idaho — Idaho State’s Heather Hunt, Ashli Kimenker and Janel Smith each scored a goal as the Bengals defeated the Sacramento State’s women’s soccer team, 3-0, Friday afternoon at Davis Soccer Field. This marks the third consecutive shutout against the Hornets. Sacramento State is now 1-13-1 overall and 0-5 in the Big Sky Conference while Idaho State improved to 10-6-1 (4-1 Big Sky) on the season.
Smith recorded the first goal for the Bengals in the ninth minute of the contest to give Idaho State an early lead. Hunt scored her goal in the 17th minute when junior goalkeeper Amy Seely bobbled the ball to give the Bengals a 2-0 advantage at the half. Hollie Christensen and Stacey Peterson were credited with the assists.
Hunt and Ilsa Gramer dished a give-and-go to Kimenker to rifle a shot into the upper left corner of the goal for the final goal of the afternoon. Seely recorded a game-high five saves.
Stacey Rowell led the Hornets with the only shot on goal as Idaho State outshot the Hornets 12-5. Kristin Ideson, Kelly Law, Mandi Siller and Vicki Krage each tallied a shot for Sacramento State. For Krage, this was her first collegiate appearance for her career.
The Hornets return to Hornet Soccer Field to face Weber State on Sunday, Oct. 27 at 1:00 p.m. for the last home game of the season. Senior Lisa Wrightsman will be honored for her contributions to the Sacramento State’s women’s soccer program before the match.
