SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Junior midfielder Katie DeClercq was named Big Sky Conference Offensive Player of the Week after recording three goals and leading the Hornet women''s soccer team to its first win of the 2002 season, it was announced today. The win was also the first for head coach Karen Hanks at the Div. I level.DeClercq, a native of San Lorenzo, Calif., recorded a career-high two goals, including the game-winner, to lead the Hornets to a 3-2 victory over Idaho on Sept. 20, at Hornet Soccer Field. For DeClercq, it was the first two-goal performance of her collegiate career. On Sept. 22, DeClercq continued her offensive barrage by recording the Hornets'' lone goal in a 2-1 loss to Saint Mary''s at Hornet Soccer Field.
DeClercq now leads Sacramento State with three goals and six points while also ranking in the top ten in four offensive categories in the conference. She currently ranks sixth in goals (three), eighth in goals per game (0.43) and ninth in points (six) and points per game (.086).
Last season, DeClercq finished second on the squad with three goals and six points after returning from ACL surgery. For her efforts, she earned Big Sky honorable mention honors and was named to the 2001 Big Sky all-tournament team.
Sacramento State will travel down south to face UC Riverside on Friday, Sept. 27, at 3 p.m., at UCR Soccer Field.
