SACRAMENTO, Calif. - The rain came down Saturday, but that didn't stop the Sacramento State women's soccer program from celebrating their alumni with their annual alumni game this past weekend.
The game, originally scheduled for 1:00 pm at Hornet Field at Sacramento State, was moved to nearby Granite Regional Park where they team took advantage of a turf field to play in the rain.
Saturday's friendly ended in a 2-2 draw and, despite the rainy conditions, featured some strong competitive play from current student-athletes and alumni alike. Lisa Wrightman (1999-2002) scored the Alumni Team's first goal, assisted by Kayla Collins (2015-17), and Jennifer Lum (2012-15) scored the second. For the Hornets, Erika Munoz scored with an assist by Julia Herrera before Alyssa Baena added an unassisted goal of her own.
In total, nearly 30 alumni attended the weekend event, which included a post-match celebration in the Athletic Center at Sacramento State.
"We were really excited with the turn out and the overall success of the event," said head coach Randy Dedini. "It's always great any time we can bring together out current student-athletes and our alumni."
The 2019 Women's Soccer Spring Schedule continues with a March 29 match on the road at Pacific. The Hornets will next play at home on April 13 when they host San Jose State. A full 2019 Spring Schedule is available online.
