LATE GOAL NOT ENOUGH FOR WOMEN’S SOCCER IN 2-1 LOSS AT UNLV

LAS VEGAS, Nev. — For the second time this weekend, the Sacramento State women's soccer team took the field in Las Vegas with temperatures over 100 degrees. A second-half goal by Skylar Littlefield leveled the score at one, but a late UNLV goal proved the difference in the Hornets' 2-1 loss.

The Rebels struck first Sunday afternoon, taking a 1-0 lead in the 13th minute. That was the only score of the first half, though the two teams combined for 10 total shots, including eight on goal. Skylar Littlefield and Erika Munoz combined for three shots, each placing one on goal but were unable to find the back of the net.

The second half started slow, but the Hornets finally broke through for their first score of the game. Littlefield, who ended the afternoon with five total shots (two on goal), connected with Kylee Kim-Bustillos for her first goal of the season in the 69th minute. The assist was the first of the year for Kim-Bustillos.

The score did not stay tied for very long, however, as UNLV countered almost immediately, scoring the game-winner less than one minute later. Neither team would score again in the remaining 20 minutes as the score went final, 2-1, in favor of UNLV.

Littlefield led the team with five shots while both Munoz and Shay Valenzano each added another. In total, four of the Hornets' seven shots were on target. The UNLV offense took 22 total shots, placing 11 on goal.

Despite taking the loss, freshman goalkeeper Ailey Collins put together a very impressive performance in her Sacramento State debut. Collins faced 22 total shots Sunday afternoon. 11 were on target, and although she allowed two goals, she made a stunning nine saves in her first career start.

Sunday's game wraps up the UNLV Invitational for Sacramento State. They'll return home for a short stay before hitting the road again to take on Fresno State in Fresno on Friday, August 24.
