SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The 2018 Sacramento State women's soccer schedule is now available, announced 12th year head coach Randy Dedini. The schedule features 18 regular season matches, including nine at home at Hornet Field.
The season starts with two preseason exhibition games, one at San Jose State on Aug. 6 and another at home against Cal on Aug. 10.
The regular season will get underway on the road as the Hornets take on UC Santa Barbara and UNLV in a tournament at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas from Aug. 17-19. The Hornets will then travel to Fresno for an Aug. 24 match against the bulldogs.
Sacramento State's home opener is scheduled for Aug. 26 against Causeway rival UC Davis. It is their only home match in August as they close the month with a road match at Pacific on Aug. 31.
After starting the season with four of five matches on the road, the Hornets will play three of their final four non-conference matches at Hornet Field. They welcome Nevada (9/7) and CSUN (9/9) before making a quick trip to San Francisco on Sept. 14. Their final non-conference match is a home contest against Saint Mary's on Sept. 16.
The Big Sky Conference portion of the schedule begins on the road in Eastern Washington on Sept. 21. From there, the Hornets will travel to Idaho on Sept. 23 before returning home for two conference matches against Idaho State (9/28) and Weber State (9/30).
Five of the team's nine Big Sky matches will be played at home, including the final three. Sacramento State will host Portland State on Oct. 14, Northern Colorado on Oct. 19, and Montana on Oct. 21 in their regular season finale.
The Big Sky Conference Tournament is scheduled to take place from Wednesday, Oct. 31 through Sunday, Nov. 4. The tournament will be held at the regular season champion's home venue.
NOTES -- The Sacramento State women's soccer team finished 8-8-4 overall lase season, including 3-3-4 against Big Sky opponents and advanced to their third consecutive Big Sky Conference tournament...the 2018 non-conference schedule includes five teams from last season's non-conference schedule (UNLV, Fresno State, UC Davis, Nevada, and Saint Mary's)...the Hornets were 4-1 against those five teams last season...the Hornets graduated eight seniors from last season, including first team all-conference defender Chelsea Arnold...the Hornets return 17 players from last year's squad, including the Big Sky's Newcomer of the Year and first team all-conference selection Kylee Kim-Bustillos...as of May 15, the team has announced six newcomers to the 2018 roster.
