SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Sacramento State women's soccer freshman goalkeeper Aaliyah Fesili was today named the Big Sky soccer Defensive Player of the Week.
The award comes on the heels of an excellent weekend showing by Fesili (and the entire defense). Fesili was a perfect 8-8 in save opportunities to open conference play, recording back-to-back shutouts against the conference's top offensive teams, Eastern Washington and Idaho.
Fesili played all 220 minutes of last weekend's matches, which included four overtime periods. Unfortunately, the Hornets offense was unable to net a goal, but Fesili helped lock up two points with two scoreless draws against strong opponents on the road.
With the shutouts, Fesili lowered her goals against average to 0.62, the best mark in the conference. Her .824 save percentage is the third highest in the Big Sky.
Fesili and the Hornets will take on North Dakota and the conference's Offensive Player of the Week, Katie Moller, at Sacramento State this Friday at 4:00 PM.
The award is the second for the Hornets this season. Freshman Kylee Kim-Bustillos was named the conference's Offensive Player of the Week in the season's opening week.
