WOMEN'S SOCCER DEFEATS FRESNO STATE, 2-1, IN FINAL SECONDS OF OVERTIME

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The Sacramento State women's soccer team scored with two seconds left in overtime to record a 2-1 win over Fresno State on Saturday afternoon at Hornet Field.

The Hornets improved to 2-1 with its only loss coming in double overtime. Fresno State dropped to 1-2 with its second straight 2-1 defeat.

With time running out in overtime, Kayla Collins served a corner kick into the six-yard box. The ball worked its way through traffic before deflecting off a Bulldog defender for the game winner.

Neither team scored in the first half as each side was limited to two shot attempts. Sacramento State posted the first goal of the game in the 75th minute when Caitlin Prothe took a pass from Mikayla Reed and was able to slide it past the keeper for her first goal of the season.

Just five minutes later, the Bulldogs knotted the game at 1-1 on Julia Glaser's first goal of the year. An initial shot attempt was blocked before Glaser put home the rebound.

Freshman Aaliyah Fesili earned the victory in her first start of the season for Sacramento State. Fesili, who is the third goalkeeper to play for the Hornets this year, had three saves. Nicole Theroux had five saves for the Bulldogs.

Sacramento State finished the game with a 14-9 advantage in shots and had six corner kicks compared to one from Fresno State. There were 12 fouls whistled against the Hornets with 10 coming against the Bulldogs.

The four-game homestand continues for the Hornets next Friday against UNLV. The game starts at 2:30 p.m. and will be followed by the men's team taking on CSU Bakersfield in a doubleheader.
