SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Sacramento State 11th-year head women's soccer coach Randy Dedini announced today that Rozie DeWeese will be joining the program as an assistant coach.

With 24 years of coaching experience, including 14 years at the Div. I level, DeWeese will join Dedini on the Hornet sidelines during the upcoming 2017 season. DeWeese replaces former assistant Katie Burton who was recently hired as head coach at Portland State.

"I'm very excited Rozie has decided to become a member of the coaching staff and she brings a wealth of Div. I experience as both an associate head coach and assistant coach," Dedini said. "Rozie has a very good eye for talent and a good pulse on the top players from the Sacramento area. She is a well known name within the Sacramento soccer community, is a great communicator with players, and will come here and hit the ground running."

Since 2014, DeWeese has been the Union Sacramento FC's director for the U14-19 girls programs, as well as head coach for NPL U16 and U17 girls squads. Prior to that, De Weese spent 10 years as an assistant on the UC Davis coaching staff (2004-13), including eight seasons as the team's associate head coach.

During her time with the Aggies, the Redlands, Calif., native played an instrumental role in UC Davis' transition to the Div. I level, which included the team's first seven seasons in the Big West Conference. De Weese assisted in all facets of coaching and program management, which included serving as the team's recruiting coordinator.

Prior to UC Davis, DeWeese was an assistant for four seasons (2000-03) at Indiana State where she helped establish the program from its inception. With the Sycamores, she coached two first team all-conference selections and four second team all-league choices. Before working on Indiana State's staff, she spent three years as an assistant at her alma mater Cal State San Bernardino (1997-99). As a member of the staff at CSUSB, she assisted with recruiting efforts, practice sessions and monitored the academic progress of the team.

DeWeese played collegiately at Cal State San Bernardino and finished tied for third all-time in career goals (27) and fifth in points (61). During her senior season, she was named team captain, second-team all-California Collegiate Athletic Association, and was a CoSIDA Academic All-American. She was also the 1997 Scholar Athlete of the Year and was an NCAA Woman of the Year nominee.

DeWeese has a master's degree (physical education/coaching) from Indiana State in 2002, and a bachelor's degree (kinesiology with honors) from Cal State San Bernardino in 1997.

The Hornets, who finished last season 8-7-4 overall and 6-2-2 in the Big Sky Conference, open the 2017 season a week from today. Sacramento State hosts Pacific for an exhibition on Friday, Aug. 11, at 5 p.m., before beginning the regular season at Saint Mary's on Friday, Aug. 18.
