OGDEN, Utah – After posting a pair of shutouts over the weekend Sacramento State junior goalkeeper Kimberly Mata has been named Co-Big Sky Defensive Player of the Week. She shared the award with Portland State defender Torie Morris.
Mata recorded shutouts in each of Sacramento State's two matches this week. She made three saves against North Dakota on Friday to help her team to a 1-0 win. On Sunday she did not allow a goal in 110 minutes of play, making six stops in a 0-0 draw with Northern Colorado.
For the week Mata totaled nine saves with no goals allowed in 200 minutes. She now has four shutouts this season and five for her career. Mata leads the Big Sky with a .842 save percentage this season and is second in the conference in goals against average (1.02) and shutouts (4)
