SACRAMENTO, Calif. - After a three-game homestand to open up the 2012 season, the Sacramento State women's soccer team will play its first road game of the year on Friday night at San Francisco.

The Hornets (1-1-1) will meet the Dons (1-1-2) at 7 p.m. on Friday at USF's Negoesco Stadium. It will be the Hornets' lone game this weekend before playing UNLV and Indiana State in Las Vegas, Nev., next weekend.

Sacramento State won its season opener against Nevada, 2-1, on Aug. 19, played UC Davis to a scoreless draw on Aug. 24 and lost, 4-1, to Cal Poly in Aug. 26. Elece McBride had the game-winning goal against Nevada after Jessica Castaño scored the first goal of the season earlier. Junior transfer  Raylene Larottallied her first goal in green and gold in the second half versus Cal Poly. Sacramento State has been flop-flopping goalies thus far, with sophomore Kimberly Mata playing against Nevada and Cal Poly and senior Shelby Tomasello recorded a six-save shutout in her first career start versus the Aggies. Sacramento State has out-shot its opponents through three games (40-38) but has scored two fewer goals.

San Francisco has played two road games and two home games thus far in 2012, with its only win coming by a 1-0 score at Negoesco Stadium over Pacific. The Dons opened up their season with back-to-back 1-1 draws at San Jose State and home versus Fresno State. They are coming off a 2-1 loss at CSU Bakersfield. San Francisco has scored four goals, by four different players, on 44 shot attempts while its opponents have also scored four goals, but on 59 shots. Goalkeeper Madalyn Schiffel has played every minute in between the pipes this season, with a 0.90 goals against average and 27 saves.

Sacramento State defeated San Francisco, 1-0, last season at Hornet Field. Then-senior  Caitlin Pulverscored a 78th minute to propel the Hornets to victory. Goalkeeper Savannah Abercrombie, who also graduated following last season, made three saves in the clean sheet win.

Sacramento State played its first Div. I soccer game at USF in 1994, losing 4-0. In fact, the two teams played three times that season, with the Hornets losing all three games by a combined 13-0 score. All-time, Hornets and Dons have met 11 total times and Sacramento State holds a 3-8-0 record. However, the Hornets have won two of the last three meetings.

In her first career start, senior goalkeeper Shelby Tomasello recorded a shutout in a scoreless draw with rival UC Davis on Aug. 24. and earned Sacramento State Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week honors for her efforts. The San Ramon, Calif., native has patiently waited her turn after transferring to Sacramento State from Ohlone JC prior to the 2010 campaign and did not disappoint in her debut. Tomasello made three crucial saves in the second half to keep the Aggies off the board.
