SACRAMENTO, Calif. - The Sacramento State women's soccer team scored early in the first and tacked on three more goals after halftime in a 4-0 victory over UC Santa Cruz on Friday evening at Hornet FIeld.
The Hornets (2-3-2) snapped a five-match winless streak with the victory while the Banana Slugs (3-5) have lost three straight.
Victoria Ramirez put the Hornets on the board and in front for good in the 16th minute when she dribbled to the middle of the field and fired a shot from 20 yards out that snuck under the crossbar.
Shelby Salvacion scored her first career goal in the 50th minute when she one touched in a great cross from . scored her team-best third goal of the season in the 64th minute on a breakway and in the 67th minute freshman tallied her first career goal on a blast to the far post from 30 yards out.
As a team, the Hornets had a 21-5 edge in shots on the Banana Slugs. Sacramento State also had the advantage in corner kicks, 8-1. Sacramento State keeper notched her first career shutout with four saves in the clean sheet win. UCSC goalie Monica Chazen made 11 stops while allowing all four goals.
Sacramento State will be back in action on Sunday afternoon, with a 1 p.m. kickoff against Penn. Sunday's contest will be a part of a doubleheader with the men's soccer team, who will battle San Jose State after the women's game.
