BORISOVA LEADS GYMNASTICS TO WIN OVER SEAWOLVES

ANCHORAGE, Alaska --- Sacramento State sophomore Marina Borisova finished first in the all-around, bars, beam and floor to help lead the Hornets to a 190.225-183.800 victory over Alaska Anchorage on Friday night. Borisova scored 9.625 on bars, 9.725 on beam, 9.600 on floor and 38.575 in the all-around. The Sacramento native was also second on vault with a 9.625.
The win improved Sacramento State to 3-1 on the season while the Seawolves opened the year 0-1.
The Hornets dominated the top three spots on all four events. Alaska Anchorage’s Lauren Agostino won the individual title on beam with a 9.750 to mark UAA’s only victory. She was followed by Borisova and Sacramento State’s Amanda Bieber and Tiffany Bass who tied for third at 9.600.
On bars, junior Melissa Genovese was second with a 9.600 while the Seawolves’ Lauren Magiera was third at 9.575. Freshman Eryn Stubblefield and senior Sara Williams tied for fourth place with scores of 9.550.
Borisova tied Genovese for first place on beam. The share of first was just the latest for Genovese — who also placed first in the season opener. The pair each scored 9.725 to easily finish ahead of Stubblefield who was third with a 9.650.
On floor, Borisova was followed by Bass who scored 9.575. Agostino was third at 9.550.
The Hornets took the top three spots in the all-around. Borisova placed just ahead of Genovese (38.275) while Bass (37.400) was third.
The two teams will meet again on Sunday at the Wells Fargo Sports Complex.
