McCARTNEY, MEILLER, HANSEN END SEASON AT NCAA REGIONAL

SEATTLE — The 2012 Sacramento State gymnastics season came to a close at the Seattle Regional on Saturday. The Hornets were represented by all-arounder Kalliah McCartney, vault and bar specialist Nicole Meiller and floor specialist Kailey Hansen.

Alabama and LSU, the top two seeds at the meet, advanced to the NCAA National Championships. Alabama scored 197.025 while LSU amassed 196.075. Aubree Cristello of Arizona (39.250) and Aliza Vaccher of Washington (39.225) captured the two at-large berths in the all-around.

McCartney opened the meet on bars but suffered her first fall in the event since the season opener, resulting in an 8.175. From there, the Vancouver, Wash., native regrouped to score 9.750 on beam to place 22nd. On floor, McCartney tied for 14th place behind a 9.775. She ended the meet on vault with a 9.800 to tie for 18th place. McCartney finished with a 37.500 in the all-around to place 18th.

Hansen competed with Central Michigan during the first rotation on floor. The sophomore scored 9.750 to tie for 19th place.

Meiller also rotated with CMU for her two events. On vault, Meiller tallied 9.775 to tie for 22nd. She tied for 18th on bars with a 9.825. The junior's score on bars was the highest at an NCAA regional in school history. Her vault is tied for third best by a Hornet at a regional.

McCartney's 9.800 on vault is tied for the second highest by a Sacramento State gymnast in NCAA postseason competition.
