GYMNASTICS DEFEATS UC DAVIS, BETTERED BY No. 9 OREGON STATE ON FRIDAY NIGHT

Katie Osaki scored a season high on vault to help the Hornets their second highest score of the year.

DAVIS, Calif. —
The Sacramento State gymnastics team posted its second highest score of the season to finish second in a three team meet hosted by UC Davis on Friday night at The Pavilion. Ninth-ranked Oregon State cruised to an easy win with a season-best 197.400. The Hornets scored 194.175 to finish second while the Aggies totaled 193.875.

Sacramento State opened the meet on bars with a season best 48.575. Ashley Wooff opened with a 9.725 to get the team going and was followed by a 9.675 from Cayla Beutler and a 9.625 from Kaila KilweinKalliah McCartney added a 9.750 and Nicole Meiller ended the rotation with a 9.800.

The second rotation took the Hornets to beam where they scored 48.225 despite counting a fall. Kayla Wonderly led off with a 9.675 and Elideth Guerrero matched that effort two spots later in the order. Beutler followed with a season high 9.775 but a fall from Kailey Hansen left the team counting a 9.300 before McCartney closed things out with a 9.800.

On floor, Sacramento State counted five scores of at least 9.675 led by a 9.825 from Hansen who finished  in a tie for fourth place. Katie Osaki contributed a 9.750, Dallas Smith a 9.725 and McCartney a 9.700.

Clinging to a half-point lead over UC Davis going into the final rotation, Sacramento State held off the Aggies behind a season high 48.700 on vault. The Hornets needed nearly all of that score as UC Davis narrowed the gap with a 48.875 on floor.

On vault, Osaki began with a season best 9.725. Kilwein established a career high with a 9.775 before Ono scored 9.625. Hansen matched her season high of 9.750 and McCartney set a new personal best with a 9.825 to tie for third place.

Oregon State claimed all four individual event titles as well as the all-around. McCartney amassed a total of 39.075 to finish fourth in the all-around.

Sacramento State will next travel to Utah State on Friday, Feb. 17, for a Western Athletic Conference showdown with the Aggies.
