GYMNASTICS PLACES FOURTH AT WAC CHAMPIONSHIPS; ZAMOLO TIES FOR SECOND ON BEAM

SAN JOSE, Calif. — Led by a 9.900 on beam from senior Lissa Zamolo, the Sacramento State gymnastics team scored 193.550 to place fourth at the Western Athletic Conference Championships, Saturday night at the SJSU Event Center.

For the second consecutive week, the Hornets scored at least 48.000 on each of the four events. The balanced effort placed the team just behind host San Jose State (193.925) for third place. Boise State claimed its third team title in the last four years with a score of 195.700. Southern Utah, which finished first in 2010, was second at 194.825. Utah State (191.850) and Cal State Fullerton (191.650) completed the six-team field.

Zamolo tied for second on beam to earn first team all-WAC honors for the second time in her career. The senior trailed only SUU's Brooke Cersosimo (9.925) in the event. Freshman Elideth Guerrero ranked second on the team and ninth overall at 9.775.

On floor, the Hornets were guided by Bethany Barrick's 9.800 which tied for eighth. Freshman Kailey Hansen scored 9.775 to tie for 11th and senior Jasmine Lipka scored 9.725 to tie for 18th.

Sophomore Nicole Meiller recorded the top score on the team on both vault and bars. Meiller tied for eighth on vault with a 9.775 and earned second team all-WAC honors on bars with a 9.775 to tie for sixth.

Sacramento State was also aided on vault by a pair of 9.725s from Hansen and freshman Katie OsakiEmiko Ono scored 9.725 to rank second on the team on bars.

Boise State's Amy Glass finished first on vault with a 9.900. Hannah Redmon of BSU and Southern Utah's Alyssa Clock tied for the top spot on bars at 9.850. Cal State Fullerton's Alaina Baker (9.900) won on floor and had the high mark in the all-around (39.125).

The meet marked the final team competition for Sacramento State in 2011. However, Amanda Blauvelt and Hansen could qualify for the NCAA West Regional.
