SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Junior Toni Petersen placed first on floor, bars and all-around to help lead the Hornet gymnastics team to a 193.925-192.350 win over West Region rival Boise State Sunday afternoon at Hornet Gym. It was the Hornets’ first home meet of the year and the fourth highest score in program history.

The Hornets raised their record to 4-3 on the season while the Broncos fell to 2-5.

Boise State lead after three rotations (145.275-145.025) before the Hornets pulled away with a season-high 48.900 on floor compared to the Broncos’ 47.075 on beam. It was Sacramento State’s first win over Boise State in five meetings since joining the Div. I ranks in 1992.

Petersen, a native of Fresno, Calif., placed first all-around with a score of 38.925 while also recording the top spot on floor with a 9.9. Petersen and senior Lori Gillette both recorded a career-high 9.875 on bars to share first place in the event. For Petersen, it was the second-consecutive meet in which she led the squad in all-around competition.

Sophomore Binta Coleman led all competitors with a score of 9.750 on beam while also placing second all-around with a 38.875 and junior Jenny Diamond placed second on vault (9.750) and beam (9.725) and third on floor (9.8) to round out the Hornets placing in the top three. Diamond’s score on floor was also a career high.

Also helping to pace the squad were freshman Meloney Greer (fourth, 9.775) on bars, freshman Stefanie Aeder (fourth, 9.775) on floor and senior Wendy Baisdon (tied for fourth, 9.525) on beam. It was the first competition for Baisdon since suffering an ACL injury during pre-meet warm-ups for the Sacramento Invitational on March 17, 2001.

Boise State’s Jamie Johns earned top vault honors with a score of 9.8 while Carla Chambers finished second on floor with a team-high 9.850 to lead the Broncos.

The Hornets will look to continue their climb in the West Region rankings when they host Seattle Pacific on Friday, Feb. 15, at 7 p.m. in Hornet Gym.
