GYMNASTICS IMPROVES ITS SCORE, DEFEATS SEATTLE PACIFIC BUT FALLS TO UC DAVIS

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Eryn Stubblefield finished first on vault and beam and Jasmine Lipka won on floor to lead the Sacramento State gymnastics team on Friday night at the Hornets Nest. The Hornets scored 190.700 to defeat Seattle Pacific (186.450) but came up short against UC Davis (191.525).

The loss to the Aggies snapped a 22-meet winning streak against UC Davis. UCD last defeated the Sacramento State on March 15, 2002.

The Hornets opened on vault and scored 47.225. Stubblefield recorded a 9.700 to finish first in the event. Fellow senior Traci Takeda tied for third overall with a score of 9.625.

Sacramento State had the best team score of the meet on bars with a total of 48.025. Junior Amanda Blauvelt scored 9.750 to place second overall and was one of three Hornets in the top five. Lipka and freshman Nicole Meiller tied for fourth with career bests of 9.650.

For the second consecutive week, Sacramento State encountered some trouble on beam. The team saw three of its six gymnasts fall and ended the rotation with a 47.425. However, the three gymnasts that stayed on all had big scores led by Stubblefield's 9.825. Takeda placed third at 9.750 and Lipka tied her career high with a 9.650.

The Hornets closed out the meet on floor with a 48.025. The team counted five scores of at least 9.550. Lipka led the way with a 9.700 which just edged UC Davis' Michelle Ho (9.675) for the top honor. Lissa Zamolo tied for third overall with a 9.650 while Cayla Boyce tied for sixth at 9.575.

Tanya Ho of UC Davis won the individual bars title and the all-around crown with a 9.775 and 38.375 respectively.

Sacramento State continues its homestand next Friday, Jan. 29, with a tri-meet against Southern Utah and Cal State Fullerton. The meet begins at 7 p.m. and also serves as Alumni night.
