TSURUMOTO, GENOVESE AND CONDREN LEAD GYMNASTICS TO WIN AT HOME

SACRAMENTO, Calif. --- Sophomores Alexis Tsurumoto and Melissa Genovsese and senior Trista Condren each won individual titles to help lead the Sacramento State gymnastics team a first-place finish Sunday afternoon against Cal State Fullerton and Alaska Anchorage.

The Hornets scored a season-best 192.425 and finished over a point ahead of the Titans (191.375). The Seawolves were third with 189.825.

Sacramento State began the meet by scoring a season-high 48.425 on vault. All six Hornets recorded marks of at least 9.600 and the team was led by freshman Marina Borisova and senior Kimiye Narasaki who each scored 9.750 to tie for third overall. Alaska Anchorage freshman Lauren Agostino finished first with a 9.850 while Amanda Van Horn of Cal State Fullerton scored 9.775 to place second.

The Hornets continued their momentum on bars with a 48.000. Tsurumoto anchored the lineup with a team season-high 9.800. Genovese also established her career high with a 9.625 and Narasaki added a 9.650. Brooke Weigandt and Brittany Hoffman — both of Cal State Fullerton — finished second and third respectively at 9.750 and 9.700.

On beam, Genovese scored 9.700 to finish first overall and sophomore Tiffany Bass tied for second at 9.625 to pace Sacramento State. As a team, the Hornets scored 47.125 but were outdone by the Titans who tallied 47.450. Jessica Tait of Cal State Fullerton tied Bass for second.

The Hornets sealed the victory on floor with a season-best 48.875. Sacramento State swept the top three individual spots with a 9.850 from Condren, a career-best 9.825 from senior Carrie Kinghorn and a career-high 9.800 from Borisova.

Alaska Anchroage’s Agostino won the all-around with a total of 38.675.Jessica Portlock of UAA was second at 38.275 while CSF’s Hoffman scored 38.225 to finish third. The meet marked the first time this season that Sacramento State did not compete an all-arounder.

Sacramento State will not return to competition until it travels to Cal to take on the Golden Bears and UCLA on Friday, Feb. 10. The 19-day layoff is the longest during the season for the Hornets.
