GYMNASTICS EDGES UC DAVIS 192.625-191.975
SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Marina Borisova finished first on beam, floor and in the all-around to help lead the Sacramento State gymnastics team to a 192.625-191.975 victory over UC Davis, Sunday evening at the Hornets Nest.
The victory improved the Hornets to 11-2 overall while the Aggies fell to 8-7.
Both teams struggled to get going during the first rotation as Sacramento State scored 47.825 on vault and UC Davis received a 47.575 on bars. Things picked up in the second rotation where the Hornets scored a season high 48.650 on bars and the Aggies compiled a 48.425 on vault.
Those scores created a sweep of the top three spots for each team. On bars, Alexis Tsurumoto was first with a 9.775, Lauren Dyson was second at 9.750 and Melissa Genovese was third with a 9.725. The Aggies were led on vault by Michelle Kulovitz with a 9.775. Tanya Ho was second at 9.750 and Carrie Lujan took third with a 9.725.
Sacramento State stretched its lead during the third rotation with a 48.050 on beam. The Hornets received a 9.800 from Borisova to claim her fifth beam title of the season. Lissa Zamolo, Eryn Stubblefield, and Melissa Genovese each scored 9.675 to tie for fifth.
The Hornets also claimed the top three spots on floor. Borisova won for the sixth time this season with a 9.850. Genovese was second at 9.750 and Tiffany Bass finished third with 9.675.
In the all-around, Borisova scored 38.825 to finish first. Genovese was second at 38.700 and Stubblefield was third with a 38.500.
Sacramento State will close out the home portion of its schedule next Sunday against San Jose State. The meet against the Spartans will start at 2 p.m. At the conclusion of the meet, Sacramento State will honor seniors Courtney Hibler and Sara Williams who will be competing in their final meet at the Hornets Nest.
