GYMNASTICS DEFEATS SEATTLE PACIFIC

SEATTLE -- The Sacramento State women’s gymnastics team tied the fifth-best mark on beam in school history en route to earning a 192.650-190.850 victory over Seattle Pacific Saturday night at Brougham Pavilion. The Hornets recorded a 48.575 on beam and also garnered a season-best 48.700 on beam to help its overall score.

The victory improved Sacramento State to 2-4 this season. The Falcons dropped to 0-1.

The Hornets were sparked by freshman Tiffany Bass and junior Nirvana Zaher who each earned a 9.800 on beam to tie for first place. The meet marked the first competition for Bass this season. Senior Binta Coleman and sophomore Trista Condren each added a 9.725 on the event.

On bars, Coleman recorded a 9.875 to win the event. Sacramento State also had three other gymnasts place in the top five. Junior Meloney Greer tied for second (9.775), while junior Jessica Hoffman (9.750) and sophomore Carrie Kinghorn (9.675) finished in fourth and fifth, respectively.

Zaher also won the vault with a 9.70.

As a team, Sacramento State’s total score eclipsed its previous season high of 191.425 which came at Stanford on Jan. 9. The team will host is first home meet of the season on Friday, Jan. 23, against Seattle Pacific. The match will begin at 7 p.m. at the Hornets Nest.
