GYMNASTICS HAS SUCCESS ON VAULT AND FLOOR, FALLS TO SAN JOSE STATE

SACRAMENTO, Calif. —
The Sacramento State gymnastics team got off to a good start and finished strong, but the middle of the meet proved costly, as the team fell to San Jose State, 194.025-192.125, Sunday afternoon at the Hornets Nest.

The Hornets opened on vault with a team score of 48.325. The team was led by a pair of 9.700s from Kailey Hansen and Nicole Meiller and also counted a 9.650 from Katie Osaki and Amanda Blauvelt and a 9.625 from Amanda Bieber. Following the first rotation, the team trailed SJSU  by just .15 as the Spartans scored 48.4745 on bars.

The second rotation took the Hornets to bars where the team totaled 47.975. Meiller finished second in the meet, and led the team, with a 9.775. Blauvelt also contributed a 9.725 to place fourth.

San Jose State was able to widen its advantage during the third rotation, pulling ahed by over two points (145.550-143.375). Sacramento State began its time on beam by suffering falls in each of its first three routines.  The back half of the lineup helped stabilize the score as Hansen recorded a 9.650 to tie for fourth place. Jasmine Lipka and Lissa Zamolo also scored 9.500.

The Hornets rallied in their final event, scoring 48.750 on floor. The team counted five scores of at least 9.700, including 9.775s from Lipka and Kaitie Osaki, who tied for second overall. Sacramento State also received a pair of 9.750s from Bethany Barrick and Hansen and a 9.700 from Blauvelt.

Blauvelt totaled 38.250 in the all-around to place third overall. The Spartans' Thomasina Wallace finished first with a 39.175. Wallace was also first on bars (9.875) and floor (9.875), second on beam (9.775) and third on vault (9.700).

Sacramento State closes out the regular season next Sunday, March 13, when it welcomes UC Davis and Boise State at 2 p.m.
