SACRAMENTO, Calif.-- Records fell at Hornet Gym as the Hornet gymnastics team repeated as Western Independent Conference champions with a new school-record 195.275 Saturday evening. San Jose State (194.275), UC Davis (193.050), Seattle Pacific (189.675) and Alaska Anchorage (178.725) also competed in the event.
The Hornets were led by career highs from freshman Binta Coleman (39.175, all-around) (9.875, beam) (9.8, floor) and seniors Jolane Parr (9.925, bars) and Elizabeth Lutz (9.875, beam). Coleman and Lutz tied a school record with their marks on beam while Coleman's all-around mark was a new program record. Junior Lori Gillette finished with a career-high 9.85 on bars, sophomore Toni Petersen tied her career mark on bars (9.850) and seniors Jami Scoville and Parr tied their career best 9.9 on floor. Included in the melee was a new program record for overall team score on floor with a 49.200. The Hornets now the second program to repeat as conference champions since Seattle Pacific accomplished the feat from 1997-98.
UC Davis was led by sophomores Poppy Major and Flora Bare who each finished with 9.950 on floor. For the Aggies, the 9.950 score is a new program record. The team's floor score of 49.425 was also a new school record.
Danielle Albright (San Jose State) and Alison Siegel (Seattle Pacific) tied for best vault score with a 9.775.
