ZAMOLO CLAIMS VICTORY ON BEAM; GYMNASTICS FALLS AT SAN JOSE STATE

Lissa Zamolo earned her second career victory on beam after tying for first at San Jose State.

SAN JOSE, Calif. —
Senior Lissa Zamolo tied for first on beam and senior Amanda Blauvelt was second on bars to lead the Sacramento State gymnastics team against San Jose State, Friday night at Spartan Gym. As a team, the Hornets scored 190.000 but came up short against SJSU which captured the team title with a score of 193.425.

Sacramento State opened the meet on bars but quickly fell behind the Spartans after the first rotation. The Hornets amassed a total of 47.275 while SJSU scored 48.825 on vault. Blauvelt led the way for Sacramento State, scoring 9.725 which trailed only Thomasina Wallace's 9.825 in the event.

On vault, freshman Katie Osaki set a career high with a team-leading 9.700 which tied her for fourth in the meet. Fellow freshman Maddie Montoya ranked second on the team with a 9.625. Blauvelt contributed a 9.575 and senior Amanda Bieber scored 9.550. Chantal Angyal and Kailey Hansen each scored 9.525 to account for the final score.

On floor, freshman Kaila Kilwein had the top mark for Sacramento State, scoring 9.600 to place sixth. Osaki, and senior Jasmine Lipka each scored 9.575 and Bethany Barrick added a 9.550.

The Hornets concluded the meet on beam where Zamolo matched Wallace and SJSU's Julia Greer for the top spot with a 9.675. Mary Peck was close behind with a career-high 9.625.

In all, Sacramento State did not break the 48-point mark in any of the four events. However, the total of 190.000 is the second highest this season for the team.

Wallace had a tremendous night for the Spartans, tying for the top spot on all four individual events leading to a four-event total of 39.250 which won the all-around.

Sacramento State will next compete at California on Sunday, Feb. 6, at 2 p.m.

NOTES:
Friday's meet was the first for Lipka this season…the Hornets were without sophomore Nicole Meiller due to injury. Meiller has been a regular on vault and bars…Blauvelt returned to the all-around after not competing on vault and floor at Southern Utah.
