1/14/2011
Senior Amanda Blauvelt scored a career high on floor at the Lady Luck Invitational.
LAS VEGAS — Freshman Kailey Hansen finished second on floor, tied for third on vault and tied for fourth on beam to lead the Sacramento State gymnastics team at the Lady Luck Invitational, Friday night at the South Point Resort and Casino. Despite Hansen's accomplishments, the Hornets came up short against #12 Kent State, falling 195.475-189.625.
Much like the season opener, Sacramento State opened with a strong vault score and was within striking distance of the Golden Flashes after the first rotation. The Hornets scored 48.150 and were less than a point behind KSU which amassed a 48.925 on bars. Hansen led Sacramento State with a career-high 9.775. Amanda Bieber added a 9.700 while Maddie Montoya tallied a 9.675. The Hornets also counted a 9.675 from Amanda Blauvelt and a 9.375 from Chantal Angyal.
Sacramento State bettered its bars score by over two full points since last week but still scored only 46.600. Freshmen Ashley Wooff (9.425) and Kaila Kilwein (9.625) both hit their routines to begin the rotation. However, the final four Hornets suffered falls and left the Hornets three points off the pace of Kent State at the midway point of the meet.
The back half of the lineup bounced back on beam with Hansen and Lissa Zamolo closing the rotation with 9.775 and 9.700, respectively. However, Sacramento State was forced to count three other scores of 9.250 or lower leaving the team with a 46.850.
The Hornets surpassed the 48-point plateau on floor, scoring 48.025. Hansen closed out the rotation with a 9.825 which trailed only KSU's Marie Case (9.850). Blauvelt placed fourth with a career-high 9.750 and freshman Katie Osaki scored 9.625 to tie for seventh.
Kent State claimed all four of the individual event titles as well as the all-around winner. Christina Lenny scored 39.325 to win the all-around. Lenny also finished first on vault (9.875) and beam (9.850). Lindsay Runyan was first on bars (9.825).
Sacramento State will return to action on Friday, Jan. 21, at Southern Utah.
