CAYLA BOYCE NAMED WESTERN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE SPECIALIST OF THE WEEK

3/22/2010

DENVER, Colo. — Sacramento State sophomore Cayla Boyce was named the Verizon Wireless Western Athletic Conference Specialist of the Week, it was announced today. The honor is the first for Boyce this season and the third for a Sacramento State gymnast.

At Utah State on Friday, Boyce set a career high on beam with a 9.900. Her score led a sweep of the top five spots in the standings on beam by the Hornets as Sacramento State tallied 49.275. That total is the second best in school history, trailing only a 49.325 which came at the 2007 WAC Championships. The team's final score of 194.650 also set a season high.

Boyce's victory was also her fifth on beam this season, easily the most on the team for any event.

The Hornets will close out the regular season on Sat., March 27, at the WAC Championships hosted by Cal State Fullerton.
