GYMNASTICS SCORES SEASON HIGH TO WIN FOUR-TEAM MEET AT UC DAVIS

DAVIS, Calif. — Led by event wins from Marina Borisova, Traci Takeda and Alycia Chan, the Sacramento State gymnastics team posted its highest score of the season and won a four-team meet hosted by UC Davis on Sunday afternoon. The Hornets scored 194.625 bettering their previous high of 193.900 which came at Southern Utah on Jan. 23. Host UC Davis was second with a season best 192.950, New Hampshire was third at 192.525 and Bowling Green was fourth at 192.400.
Sacramento State began the meet on bars and scored a meet best 48.725 in the event. Junior Eryn Stubblefield opened with a 9.700 and was followed by a 9.625 from freshman Cayla Boyce. From that point, junior Lauren Dyson scored 9.750, which tied for sixth overall, and sophomore Amanda Blauvelt added a 9.775 to finish fifth. Borisova continued to build on the score with a season high of 9.875 which just edged UC Davis’ Lida Gehlen (9.850) for the top score.
Takeda opened up the beam lineup with a 9.825, which tied for first overall in the meet along with New Hampshire’s Katie Lawrence. After a fall, the Hornets bounced back with four more scores that all placed among the top eight in the meet. Lizzy Norvell scored 9.675 to tie for eighth and Chan recorded a 9.775 to finish fourth. The lineup was concluded by Stubblefield (9.725) and Borisova (9.675) who tied for fifth and eighth, respectively. The team’s score of 48.675 was easily the best in meet as Bowling Green was the closest at 48.000.
Sacramento State also amassed the highest team score on floor with a total of 48.775. Jasmine Lipka and Stubblefield got the team started in the right direction with a 9.650 and 9.675, respectively. The team then posted three of its highest scores of the season to end the rotation. Chan bested her career high by scoring 9.900 to win the event title. Amber Basgall and Borisova then followed with identical scores of 9.775 which tied for third.
The team concluded the competition on vault with a season high of 48.450. In fact, Sacramento State scored season bests on vault, bars and floor en route to their best total of the year. On vault, the team counted five scores of at least 9.625. Stubblefield and Chan tied for 11th place overall with 9.625s. Takeda and Basgall tied for fourth at 9.725 and Borisova was third with a 9.750.
Borisova scored 39.075 to win the all-around title by more than a quarter of a point. Stubblefield placed second at 38.725 and Bowling Green’s Breanne Guy was third at 38.625.
Sacramento State concludes its regular season on Friday, March 13, in a four-team home meet against UC Davis, California and Seattle Pacific at 7 p.m. At the conclusion of the competition, the Hornets will honor Borisova and Basgall who will each be competing in their final home regular season meet.
