1/20/2001

SACRAMENTO, Calif.--In a meet that was not decided until the final routine of the evening, the Hornets of Sacramento State, downed the Titans of Cal State Fullerton 193.575-191.925 at Hornet Gym.

After losing to the Titans on two separate occasions last season, the Hornets have now defeated Cal State Fullerton for only the second time in program history.

Sacramento State’s overall score of 193.575 became the highest opening meet score in program history. The previous best being a 190.475 in the third meet of the year in 2000. It also marked the third-highest score in team history.

After leading through three events, Cal State Fullerton relinquished its lead after costly falls on the balance beam while the Hornets were performing on floor exercise.

Freshman Binta Coleman, making her Hornet debut, ruled supreme in three of the five events to lead all competitors. The Elk Grove, Calif., native recorded a 9.775 on vault, a 9.850 on beam and a 39 all-around in her first collegiate competition.

Junior Wendy Baisdon (9.9 uneven bars) and senior Jami Scoville (9.850 floor exercise) also took first-place in their respective events to give Sacramento State a clean sweep.

The Hornets will next travel to UC Davis on Friday, Jan. 26, to take on the Aggies at 7 p.m. in Recreation Hall.
