BORISOVA NAMED WAC GYMNAST OF THE WEEK FOR THE SECOND CONSECUTIVE WEEK
3/27/2007
DENVER — Sacramento State’s Marina Borisova was named the Western Athletic Conference Gymnast of the Week for the second consecutive week, it was announced today. The honor is the third for Borisova this season and the fifth for the Hornets.
Competing at the UC Davis quadrangular last Friday, Mar. 23, Borisova tied the school record with a 39.350 in the all-around. The sophomore matched her own mark, which came earlier this season, and that of Binta Coleman’s from 2004.
Borisova opened the meet on bars and scored 9.850. She then recorded a 9.800 on bars before finishing first on floor with a 9.925. She concluded the competition with a 9.775 vault. Her total helped Sacramento State score a season best 195.150 and lift the team back into the final berth for NCAA Regionals.
With only the WAC Championships remaining on the schedule, the Encina HS graduate currently is tied for third in the West Region on floor and is seventh in the all-around. The region includes national powers such as UCLA, Oregon State, Stanford and Washington.
Borisova, who was the WAC Freshman of the Year last season, was also named Gymnast of the Week on Jan. 23 and Mar. 20.
