BORISOVA NAMED WAC GYMNAST OF THE WEEK FOR SECOND TIME THIS SEASON

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Sacramento State sophomore Marina Borisova was named the Western Athletic Conference Gymnast of the Week, it was announced today. The honor is the second for Borisova this season and the fourth for the Hornets this year.

Against San Jose State on March 18, Borisova finished first on bars and floor as well as winning the all-around. She scored 9.900 on both bars and floor and recorded an all-around score of 39.275.

Originally from Kalinigrad, Russia, Borisova came to Sacramento before high school and graduated from Encina HS. After earning WAC Freshman of the Year honors last season, she has not let up in 2007. This year, Borisova has claimed at least a share of 26 individual titles and has finished first in the all-around seven times in the team’s 12 meets.

Earlier this season, she was named WAC Gymnast of the Week on Jan. 23. Teammates Tiffany Bass and Melissa Genovese have also earned WAC Specialist of the Week honors this year.

Sacramento State will compete in its final regular season meet of the year on Friday, Mar. 23, when it travels to UC Davis to take on the Aggies, San Jose State and Cal. The team will look to repeat as WAC champions on Mar. 31 at Southern Utah.
