No. 29 GYMNASTICS TRAVELS TO UC DAVIS ON FRIDAY

3/15/2006

Fresh off of its best week of the season, the Sacramento State gymnastics team looks to continue its ascent of the national rankings this week against UC Davis. The meet against the Aggies will take place on Friday, March 17, at 7 p.m. in The Pavilion.

The Hornets enter the meet with a 9-10 record and are currently ranked 29th in the national and fifth in the West Region. A victory over UC Davis would give the team a 10-10 overall record heading into the Western Athletic Conference Championships on March 25.

Last week, Sacramento State tallied two of its three top scores of the season. The team scored 193.350 in a tough loss at San Jose State and then responded with a season high 195.175 in a home victory over UC Davis. Against the Spartans, the Hornets fell just two-tenths short of the home team. Sacramento State began the meet with two falls on bars and was never able to make up the difference.

Two days later, the team closed out the home portion of its schedule with an amazing performance against UC Davis. The Hornets opened the meet by tying the school record on vault with a team score of 49.050. Sacramento State later added a season high 48.600 on beam. The team score of 195.175 ranks as the fourth best in school history.

Sacramento State has won the last 15 meetings with the Aggies and leads the all-time series, 35-18. The last time UC Davis recorded a victory over the Hornets was on March 15, 2002. The Hornets have not lost at UC Davis since Feb. 14, 1998.
