With just three meets remaining in the regular season, the Sacramento State gymnastics team begins its homestretch with a pair of meets this week. The Hornets will travel to San Jose State to take on the Spartans on Friday, March 10, before hosting the Aggies of UC Davis on Sunday, March 12. The meet at San Jose State will begin at 7 p.m. The meet against the Aggies is slated to start at 2 p.m.
The Hornets head into the week following a loss at Boise State last Friday. The team is currently 8-9 overall and 4-1 in the Western Athletic Conference. Against the Broncos, Sacramento State scored 193.200, including a season-high 48.975 on floor. Individually, freshman Amber Basgall finished third on vault, Melissa Genovese tied for second on beam and freshman Marina Borisova tied for second on floor and was third in the all-around.
Both meets this week will have special presentations. On Friday, San Jose State will honor its seniors while the Hornets will do the same on Sunday. Six Sacramento State gymnasts will make their final home appearance during their career against the Aggies. That group is comprised of Sharee Burgess, Trista Condren, Carrie Kinghorn, Jessica Love, Brooke Morari and Kimiye Narasaki.
San Jose State currently is 11-9 overall and 2-2 in the WAC. The Spartans scored 193.225 in its most recent meet but finished third behind Stanford and UCLA. San Jose State is currently ranked fourth in the West Region and 30th in the latest poll.
UC Davis is 2-12 overall this season with wins over Air Force and Seattle Pacific. The Aggies are ranked 11th in West and 53rd nationally.
Sacramento State is 2-0 against both teams this season. The Hornets lead the all-time series against San Jose State, 31-17-1, and hold a 34-18 lead over UC Davis.
