GYMNASTICS PUTS UBEATEN WAC RECORD ON THE LINE AT BOISE STATE

3/2/2006

• This Week’s Meets

Following a convincing win over then-No. 24 Utah State, the Sacramento State gymnastics team will return to the road to face Boise State on Friday, March 3. The meet, which will be held in Taco Bell Arena, is scheduled to start at 6 p.m. PST.

Sacramento State heads into the meet with an 8-8 overall record and a 4-0 mark against Western Athletic Conference teams. The Hornets notched a 193.750-192.175 win over Utah State on Friday, Feb. 24, for its first victory in Logan, Utah, in program history. In the meet, senior Brooke Morari won vault, sophomore Melissa Genovese captured the individual title on beam and freshman Marina Borisova won on floor to help lead the team to its second highest score of the season.

After beginning the season 0-6, Sacramento State has won eight of its last 10 matchups. The only two losses during that span have come against then-No. 5 Stanford and then-No. 11 UCLA. The team has also averaged 192.825 during those meets.

In the latest rankings, Sacramento State is 34th nationally with an RQS of 192.135. That mark places the squad fifth in the West Region and would assure the team a berth in the NCAA Regionals should the season end today.

Boise State is 8-4 after finishing third in a four-team meet at Arizona State. The Broncos, who are 1-1 in the WAC, scored a season road high 192.275. The host Sun Devils won the meet while Oregon State finished second.

Friday’s meet will mark just the ninth matchup between the two schools. Boise State leads the all-time series, 5-3, but suffered a 195.875-195.025 loss to the Hornets at the Salbasgeon Suites Invitational in 2004.
