AEDER NAMED MPSF GYMNAST OF THE WEEK

3/16/2005

WOODLAND, Calif. — Sacramento State senior Stefanie Aeder was named Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Gymnast of the Week, it was announced today. The award is the second of the season for Aeder who was named co-gymnast of the week on Feb. 28.

Last Sunday, Aeder helped Sacramento State record its season-high score with wins on balance beam and floor exercise. The Portland, Ore., native scored a career high 9.850 to finish first on beam and added a 9.900 on floor. Those two scores proved pivotal as Sacramento State tallied 194.525 to defeat UC Davis for the third time this year.

Aeder currently leads the MPSF on floor exercise with a Regional Qualifying Score of 9.890. That score also ranks fourth in the West Region trailing only UCLA’s Tasha Schwikert, Kate Richardson and Kristen Maloney — all of whom are former Olympians. The victory on floor against the Aggies was her sixth first-place finish this season on the event while her beam win was the first of her career.

Sacramento State closes out its 2005 home schedule on Friday, March 18, against Cal State Fullerton. The meet will start at 7 p.m. Following competition, the Hornets will honor their five seniors, including Aeder. Sacramento State is currently ranked seventh in the West Region, .075 behind San Jose State for sixth. The top six teams in the region will likely advance to the NCAA West Regional on April 9 in Seattle.
