GYMNASTICS SETS SCHOOL RECORD AT OREGON STATE

CORVALLIS, Ore. --- The Sacramento State gymnastics team set a school record with 195.875 points at the Salbasgeon Suites Invitational Friday night at Oregon State. The host Beavers, who are ranked 13th nationally, won the six-team meet with a mark of 197.675. No. 14 BYU was second with 197.150 while Sacramento State and No. 22 Michigan State tied for third. Boise State (195.025) and Seattle Pacific (192.900) rounded out the field.

Aside from the overall point record, the Hornets set the school mark on vault with 49.050 and tied the program record with a 48.800 on beam.

Freshman Tiffany Bass helped lead the way by tying for second in the meet with a career-best 9.900 on beam. Bass'' score also ties for the second-best mark in school history.

Sacrametno State also received a top-five finish from Kimiye Narasaki on bars. The sophomore, who was competing for just the second time this year, scored 9.850 to tie for fourth. Junior Meloney Greer tied for ninth place with a season-high 9.825.

Senior Binta Coleman and juniors Jessica Hoffman and Nirvana Zaher led the team by each scoring 9.850 on vault to tie for 14th.

Junior Stefanie Aeder recorded a 9.875 to pace the team on floor. Coleman added a 9,850.

Zaher had the best all-around score on the team, scoring 39.000. The Cairo, Egypt native now is tied for 10th in school history.

Sacramento State concludes the home portion of its schedule on Friday, March 12, against Cal State Fullerton and UC Davis. The meet will begin at 7 p.m. in the Hornets Nest.
