GYMNASTICS FALLS TO CAL STATE FULLERTON

FULLERTON, Calif. --- Despite junior Stefanie Aeder''s victory on floor, the Sacramento State gymnastics team dropped a 194.050-192.375 decision to Cal State Fullerton Sunday afternoon at Titan Gym.

The Titans posted a 48.625 on their final event, the floor exercise, while the Hornets had several falls on balance beam and totaled only 47.025 on their final event. Going into the fourth rotation, Cal State Fullerton held a slim 145.425-145.350 lead.

The Titans'' Annette Reyes won the all-around with a score of 38.800. including a season''s best 9.85 to win the beam.

Sacramento State received a strong effort on floor with a season-high 48.975. Aeder''s 9.900, was not only the highest score of the meet on any rotation, but also marked her career high. Freshman Courtney Hibler was third on floor with a 9.825 and senior Binta Coleman tied for fourth with a 9.800.

Other top three finishers during the meet for the Hornets include juniors Jessica Hoffman and Nirvana Zaher who tied for third on bars with a 9.675. Zaher and Hoffman also finished in second and third, respectively, on vault while freshman Tiffany Bass was third on beam.

Bass, who recorded a 9.775, was the lone Hornet to score over 9.525 on beam. In fact, four of the team’s six competitors scored under 9.400.

Although the team struggled on beam, it managed to record its third-straight overall score above 192.000. Last season, the Hornets ended the year with four-straight meets above 192.000. The school record was set during the 2002 season with seven-straight meets above 192.000.

The Hornets will next be in action on Sunday, Feb. 15, against Alaska Anchorage at the Hornets Nest. The meet against the Seawolves will begin at 2 p.m.
