GYMNASTICS HOSTS FLIPFEST ON SATURDAY
12/7/2012

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The Sacramento State gymnastics team will make its first official appearance of the year on Saturday, Dec. 8, with its annual Flip Fest. The intrasquad meet will begin at 4 p.m. in the Hornets Nest and is free to the public.
The team will be divided into two squads with this year's meet featuring guest judges. Those scheduled to appear as judges are Faculty Athletics Representative Steve Perez, Deputy Athletics Director Bill Macriss, Associate Athletics Director Lois Mattice, Men's Soccer Head Coach Mike Linenberger, Volleyball Assistant Coach Sarah Chlebana and Athletics Ticket Manager T-Ante Sims.
The format for Flip Fest will also change this year as the two teams will compete in a flag meet. Each team will pit one of its gymnast against one from the other squad and the judges will pick the best routine of the two and award a point to the respective team.
Sacramento State returns nearly its entire competition lineup from a year ago, including Western Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year Kalliah McCartney and WAC beam and floor champion Kailey Hansen. The only seniors on the 2013 team will be Cayla Beutler and Nicole Meiller.
The Hornets begin their season on Friday, Jan. 4, in a four-team meet at San Jose State which will also feature Stanford and UC Davis. The home opener will come on Friday, Jan. 11, against Seattle Pacific.
