GYMNASTICS SIGNS MEGAN KYLE, JULIA KONNER TO NLI
SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The Sacramento State gymnastics program has signed Megan Kyle and Julia Konner to National Letters of Intenet, it was announced by head coach Kim Hughes.
Both gymnasts will enroll as freshmen in the fall at the University.
Kyle hails from Aliso Viejo, Calif., and competed for Gym-Max for the past 14 years. She helped Gym-Max win the Level 10 state team championships in 2012 and was voted the club's top bar worker that same season. While competing in Level 9, she was the state vault champion in 2010 and placed second on vault at Western Nationals in 2009.
"Megan is a true all-arounder with big skills on every event," Hughes said. "She has huge bars with two major releases and has plenty of experience at Level 10.
"She was a club teammate of (Olympian) Kyla Ross and brings that mindset and knowledge of what is needed to compete at a high level."
Konner trained at Apollo Gymnastics in Woodbridge, Va., for the past five years. She won the all-around at the 2011 Eastern Nationals and competed at Level 10 in 2012. The Bethesda, Md., native also competed for her high school team where she was an All-American on all four events. As a senior, she won every event and the all-around at the Maryland state championships.
"Julia is a powerful gymnast who will also compete as an all-arounder," Hughes said. "Her strengths are beam and floor and she comes from a quality club program which produces good gymnastics."
Sacramento State begins its 2013 season on Jan. 4 in a four-team meet at San Jose State which will also feature Stanford and UC Davis. The team will hold its annual FlipFest intrasquad competition on Saturday, Dec. 8, at the Hornets Nest.
