GYMMASTICS RELIES ON SENIORS IN FINAL HOME MEET OF THE SEASON

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The Sacramento State gymnastics team wrapped up its home schedule by producing the best score for the team at The Nest this year. The Hornets scored 192.625 but finished third behind 14th-ranked California (196.975) and UC Davis (195.450).

The senior trio of Jackie Sampson, Lauren Schmeiss and Carly Pratt all recorded career bests during their final home meet. Sampson scored 9.850 on bars before a career high 9.875 on beam which placed her second overall. Schmeiss scored at least 9.700 on all three of her events, including a 9.850 on floor to tie for fourth place. Pratt also set a career best on floor with a 9.825 and tied for seventh.

Sacramento State started the meet on vault with a 48.175. The final three members of the lineup led the team with Schmeiss starting the run with a 9.700. Jordyn Brent followed with a 9.750 and Alexis Belkoff wrapped things up with a 9.825 to tie for third place.

The team continued to fight through injuries which limited the bar lineup to a total of 46.850. After a pair of 9.550s, Sampson sparked the team with a 9.850 for the second consecutive week. Brent immediately followed with a career best 9.900 to tie for second. Her score was the best on the team this season and tied her for ninth in school history.

The Hornets bounced back on beam with a 48.775. The first four members of the lineup each received a score of at least 9.750. Kendra Braida opened with a 9.800 and Schmeiss added a 9.750. Freshman Amber Koeth then provided a personal best 9.800 to tie for eighth place. Sampson kept the run going with her career best effort which was also the highest by a Sacramento State gymnast this season on beam.

The team's highest event score of the meet came on floor with a 48.825. Belkoff received a 9.750 out of the second spot in the lineup to give the Hornets a good start. The back half of the lineup then carried the load with a 9.825 from Brent and Pratt and a Schmeiss closing the meet with a 9.850.

All four all-arounders in the meet finished with totals above 39 points. UC Davis' Kelley Hebert finished first at 39.275. Brent scored 39.025 for the second best score of her career.

Sacramento State will next compete in Seattle on March 8 against Iowa and Washington.
