DAVIS, Calif. — The Sacramento State gymnastics team continued to see its score rise as the Hornets set a season high with a total of 191.625 in a three-team meet at UC Davis on Sunday. The host Aggies, who entered the meet ranked 27th nationally, pulled ahead on its final routine of the meet to score 193.350. Alaska Anchorage totaled 193.125 to place second.

Sacramento State found itself in an early hole after the first rotation as the Hornets scored 46.125 on bars. Jordyn Brent led the team with a 9.625 to tie for seventh place. However, the team was forced to count four other scores ranging from 8.700-9.350 leaving the squad a full two points behind their opponents.

The Hornets raised their total to 48.300 on beam. Freshman Shaye Mathias led the way with a 9.750 which placed her seventh overall. Kendra Braida and Lauren Schmeiss tied for eighth with each scoring 9.675.

The team followed with a 48.600 on floor which was just a fraction of a point off its season high. Senior Carly Pratt opened the rotation with a 9.675 and was followed by a 9.725 from Braida who was competing on floor for the first time in her collegiate career. Mathias, who was also making her first appearance on floor, scored 9.650. Belkoff matched her career high with a 9.800 and tied for second place overall and Lauren Schmeiss wrapped up the rotation with a season high 9.750.

The Hornets easily set their season best on vault with a 48.600 during the final rotation. The team's previous high in the first three meets was 47.900. Competing with just five gymnasts in the lineup, all five produced scores between 9.625 and 9.775. Belkoff tied for second place with a season best 9.775. Destiny Watley and Schmeiss each scored 9.750 to tie for third place.

For the first time this season, Sacramento State had a pair of all-arounders as Mathias joined Brent in all four events. Mathias totaled 38.250 which placed her third in the meet. The freshman scored 9.625 on vault, 9.225 on bars, 9.750 on beam and 9.650 on floor.

The Hornets will have a week away from competition before returning to The Nest for a dual against San Jose State on Friday, Feb. 8, at 7 p.m.
