  • CAITLIN SOLIWODA SCORES SEASON HIGH IN ALL-AROUND AT NCAA REGIONAL

    The 2018 Sacramento State gymnastics season drew to a close on Saturday afternoon at the Huntsman Center on the campus of the University of Utah. Caitlin Soliwoda scored a season high 39.225 and Annie Juarez added a 39.100 in the all-around while Courtney Soliwoda finished with a 9.800 on beam.

    Annie Juarez, Caitlin Soliwoda and Courtney Soliwoda will participate at the NCAA Salt Lake Regional on Saturday, April 7, at 3 p.m. PDT. The Juarez and Caitlin Soliwoda will compete as all-arounders while Courtney Soliwoda will be a specialist on beam.

    Three members of the Sacramento State gymnastics team earned invitations to the NCAA Salt Lake City Regional, it was announced today. Seniors Annie Juarez and Caitlin Soliwoda will compete as all-arounders while senior Courtney Soliwoda will be an event specialist on balance beam. The meet will take place on Saturday, April 7, at 3 p.m. PDT.

    A career high from Annie Juarez in the all-around lifted the Sacramento State gymnastics team to its third consecutive home score of at least 195.000 on Friday night at The Nest. The Hornets scored 195.275 to place third in the meet behind 13th-ranked Oregon State (196.850) and 17th-ranked Arizona State (195.900) and ahead if UC Davis (194.475).

    Sacramento State will close out its regular season on Friday, March 16, as the Hornets will host their second consecutive four-team meet at The Nest at 7 p.m. Sacramento State will face a pair of top 25 opponents in 13th-ranked Oregon State and No. 17 Arizona State. Local rival UC Davis completes the field.

    The Sacramento State gymnastics kept its home success going, posting its second highest score of the season in a four-team meet on Friday at The Nest. The Hornets scored 195.175 to finish third in the meet. Cal, which is ranked 20th in the nation, won the meet with a total of 196.650. Minnesota, the 22nd-ranked team in the country, finished second at 196.475. Alaska Anchorage took fourth at 191.925.

    The Sacramento State gymnastics team could not overcome counting falls in its first two rotations in a 196.725-193.450 loss to No. 14 Boise State on Friday night at Taco Bell Arena. The score ended the Hornets’ streak of three consecutive meets of at least 194 points.

The Hornets scores 194.075 to easily surpass host SPU (192.285) and UAA (191.950) who each scored season highs.

    Everything is a little brighter for the Sacramento State gymnastics team this week. After a slow start to the season, the Hornets have posted their two best scores of the year in the last two meets. Most recently, Sacramento State score 195.400 which is the highest in the MPSF this year and moved the team up three spots in the national rankings.

    It all finally came together for the Sacramento State gymnastics team on Friday night. After an inconsistent start to the season, the Hornets scored a season best 195.400 and earned victories over San Jose State (194.050) and Seattle Pacific (189.200) at The Nest. The score was a full point above the team’s previous high which came last week.

    The Sacramento State women’s gymnastics team earned a victory from Annie Juarez in the all-around and also saw Caitlin and Courtney Soliwoda each win an individual event title at the Seawolf Invitational on Saturday night. The Hornets scored 193.000 to finish in second place. The team defeated host Alaska Anchorage (190.125) but fell to Air Force (193.100) by a tenth of a point.

This week’s meet will take place on Friday, Jan. 26, at The Events Center in San Jose, Calif. Unlike the first two meetings, this matchup will be a dual meet between the two schools.

    The Sacramento State gymnastics team opened its season with strong performances on beam and floor but counted falls on vault and bars en route to a fifth-place finish at the NorCal Classic on Monday at Stanford. The Hornets scored 192.875 but were unable to catch the rest of the field. Cal, which is ranked 11th in the preseason poll, won the NorCal Classic for the second consecutive year with a 195.475. Host and 18th-ranked Stanford was second at 194.925. San Jose State (194.475) and UC Davis (194.400) finished third and fourth, respectively.

    The Sacramento State gymnastics team will hold its first public event on Friday, Dec. 8, with its annual FlipFest. The intrasquad meet will begin at 7 p.m. in the Hornets Nest and is free to the public.
