LAUREN RICE NAMED MPSF GYMNAST OF THE WEEK

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Junior Lauren Rice has been selected as the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Gymnast of the Week after scoring a season high in the all-around and helping the team score 195.275 and earn victories over Arizona State and Bridgeport. The win over Arizona State was the first in school history and the second over a Pac-12 opponent this year for the Hornets.

Rice totaled 39.200 with four scores of at least 9.750. She opened the meet with a season best 9.825 on bars to tie for second place. She followed with a 9.800 on beam to tie for sixth and then posted a season high 9.825 on floor where she was third. The Henderson, Nev., native helped secure the win by scoring 9.750 on vault in the final rotation.

Rice is averaging 38.900 in the all-around this season but has three scores over 39.000. The Hornets will look to defend their MPSF title on Saturday, March 18, when the team competes at the conference championships at San Jose State.
