GYMNASTICS VICTORIOUS AGAINST SAN JOSE STATE IN HOME OPENER

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Sacramento State gymnasts accounted for at least a share of all four individual event titles as well as the all-around in the team's 194.400-192.725 victory over San Jose State on Friday night at The Nest. Following a 194.475 at the NorCal Classic on Monday, the Hornets have now surpassed 194.400 in their initial two meets for the first time in school history.

Sacramento State opened the meet on vault and saw all six of its gymnasts score between 9.725 and 9.775 for a total of 48.825. Freshmen Tara Cator and Alexis Belkoff and senior Julia Konner each had a 9.775 to place in a four-way tie for first along with SJSU's Taylor Chan.

The Hornets extended their lead during the second rotation with a 48.900 on bars. Lauren Rice led off with a 9.825 and saw that score hold to claim the individual title. Caitlin Soliwoda tied for second overall with a 9.800 while Megan Kyle added a career best 9.775 to finish in fourth place.

The third rotation took Sacramento State to beam where Konner started with a 9.725. However, the next three Hornets all had falls, forcing the team to count two towards the team total. Courtney Soliwoda put things back on track with a 9.700 and Caitlin added a 9.850 to set her career best and claim first in the meet (her first career beam victory).

Despite seeing the Spartans draw with a quarter of a point (145.525-145.275), Sacramento State put the meet out of reach with a 48.875 on floor. Carly Pratt started with a career best 9.750 and the team didn't count a score below 9.700 in the event. Catour earned her first collegiate win with a 9.850 while Konner tied for second at 9.825.

Caitlin Soliwoda and Konner finished first and second in the all-around for the second time during the week. This time, however, the order was switched as Soliwoda totaled a career high 39.100 and Konner finished just off the pace at 39.075.

Sacramento State will next compete at Air Force on Saturday, Jan. 21. The team returns to Northern California for a meet at UC Davis on Jan. 29 before coming back to The Nest to face Alaska Anchorage of Feb. 3.
